Created during the 19th century in the former Lanna Kingdom of Northern Thailand, this hand-carved temple panel, known as a Phra Phaeng, reflects the region’s enduring Buddhist traditions and exceptional devotional craftsmanship. Fashioned from native hardwood, its tiered architectural form was designed to enshrine small terracotta Buddha votive tablets, each pressed by monks and pilgrims as an act of merit-making. Delicate Kranok carvings crown the soaring spire, where traces of original cinnabar lacquer, gold leaf, and green glass mosaic still remain. Time has gently softened its surface, yet the panel continues to convey the quiet reverence of sacred temple architecture, preserving both the artistic legacy and spiritual heritage of Northern Thailand.
