Rich with the character of age, this antique Chinese coffer cabinet combines traditional joinery with lively traces of polychrome decoration. Its stepped silhouette is framed by openwork side wings and a lower apron carved with Huiwenfretwork, or key-pattern geometry, accented by remnants of green paint. Two upper drawers feature deeply carved floral panels with weathered red, green, and gilt decoration, complemented by aged brass drop-ring pulls. A central metal latch opens to the spacious lower compartment, while a discreet hidden drawer adds another layer of practical design. Traditional mortise-and-tenon construction is visible throughout, and the heavily distressed amber-brown finish, surface wear, and exposed wood grain give the cabinet an authentic, timeworn presence.
