Monumental in both scale and craftsmanship, this 19th-century copper water vessel reflects the distinguished metalworking traditions of the Middle East and Ottoman world. Hand-raised from heavy-gauge copper, its imposing form preserves extensive evidence of traditional coppersmithing, including hand-hammered dimpling and carefully joined panels secured with distinctive dovetail seams. The broad neck, shoulder, and handle brackets are richly decorated with hand-etched scrolling foliage, geometric borders, and intricate engraved motifs. Two substantial swinging handles complete the architectural silhouette, their brackets carrying additional ornament. Inside, the original silvery tin lining survives with beautifully aged oxidation and wear, while the exterior has developed a warm copper patina accented by areas of verdigris. Its monumental proportions and richly worked surfaces give this vessel the presence of both functional historical object and sculptural statement.
