This exceptional late 19th-century Yi (Nuosu) embroidered silk panel reflects the distinctive textile traditions of southwestern China’s Yi communities. Centered around a mandala-like composition, the design features the traditional cloud-and-hook motifs associated with Yi decorative arts, radiating through geometric diamonds and layered forms. Fine hand-couched silk and metallic gilt threads create remarkable definition, while cinnabar pink, jade green, and deep black give the panel a striking visual presence.
