Created during the Qing Dynasty, this finely carved figure depicts Songzi Guanyin, the compassionate Bodhisattva revered as the Bestower of Children and a symbol of mercy, protection, and family blessings. Seated in royal ease upon a lotus throne within a rocky grotto representing Mount Potalaka, she is accompanied by her faithful parrot, a ritual kundikawater vase, and the child Shancai in prayer. Carved from a single block of wood, the sculpture retains traces of its original red lacquer and gold leaf, gently softened by time. Rich in Buddhist symbolism, it reflects the deep spiritual devotion and masterful artistry that characterized Qing Dynasty devotional sculpture.
