Seated in a relaxed pose of rajalilasana, this carved sandstone figure depicts Guanyin, the Bodhisattva of Compassion, whose serene presence has inspired devotional art across Asia for centuries. Her gently lowered gaze, elongated earlobes, and elaborate floral tiara convey quiet dignity, while flowing robes and cascading sashes soften the rugged stone base. An ornate necklace crosses the chest, adding refinement to the carefully modeled figure. Traces of original polychrome decoration survive in the recesses, with red pigment accenting the drapery and headdress and blue-green tones settled into the textured rockwork. The weathered sandstone and surviving color lend the sculpture a compelling sense of age and spiritual character.
