Representing the twin Christian martyrs Saints Florus and Laurus, this remarkable pair of carved wooden santos reflects the deeply devotional tradition of religious sculpture. According to their legend, the brothers were skilled horsemen who were taught to ride by the Archangel Michael, a story that helped establish their place within Christian iconography. Both figures display serene expressions, finely carved curly hair, layered robes in contrasting blue and red, and delicate gilt detailing along their garments. Each stands upon an octagonal wooden plinth finished in aged green pigment. Traditional gesso, polychrome paint, and gilding remain across the surfaces, now enriched by craquelure, worn areas, and natural losses that reveal generations of age and devotional use.
