This monumental three-tier Chinese Shihe food carrier is an extraordinary example of late Qing Dynasty bamboo craftsmanship, dated 1897 by the cyclical inscription 丁酉年 (Dingyou Year). Constructed from tightly woven natural and dark-dyed bamboo over a sturdy hardwood frame, it features deeply carved wooden supports, scrolling foliage, and original iron corner brackets. Its woven panels are further enhanced by auspicious inscriptions, including 萬代永正宗, expressing hopes for an enduring and honorable lineage, and 子孫常昌, wishing for generations of prosperous descendants. One side bears 精味齋 (“Studio of Refined Flavors”), adding a fascinating connection to its culinary or household history. Originally created for ceremonial food presentation, its impressive scale and intricate construction make it an exceptional piece of Chinese decorative art.
