Before 1980, China was often called the land of “10,000 Villages,” where each rural path led to a covered Spirit Gate marking the entrance to a community. These gates were more than mere landmarks—they were sacred thresholds, where villagers placed carved deities to guard their homes and fields from wandering malevolent spirits.
World Dekor was fortunate to acquire a collection of these rare guardian statues before the government enacted strict preservation laws and an export ban, ensuring that these echoes of village life would endure beyond their original gates.
