Hand-hewn from a massive section of solid timber, this primitive wooden bench has the powerful presence of a piece of folk sculpture. Its deeply scooped, saddle-shaped seat preserves prominent adze marks, hand-planed tool scars, and natural checking that reveal the labor behind its creation. The substantial undercarriage showcases traditional mortise-and-tenon construction, with an interlocking X-frame secured by a heavy central stretcher and oversized wooden wedges. Scalloped tooling marks, hand-cut joints, and irregular organic edges further emphasize its handmade character, while a naturally weathered hollow-log extension adds another layer of texture. A deeply developed patina and abundant evidence of age give the bench an unmistakable sense of history, craftsmanship, and rustic character.
