An exceptional example of Shui (Sui) minority craftsmanship from Guizhou Province, this ceremonial baby carrier (beidai) features a gently curved wooden yoke designed to distribute weight evenly across the shoulders while supporting a long indigo-dyed cotton textile panel. The surface is richly adorned using the rare Mawixiu (horsetail embroidery) technique, where silk threads are wrapped around horsehair cores to create dense, raised relief motifs. The design is arranged in symbolic registers of lotus blossoms, auspicious cloud bands, and geometric protective patterns above a central solar medallion flanked by Ruyi scrollwork. Framed by coral-red side borders, it retains its original yoke and displays authentic age-related wear and tribal textile heritage.
