Handwoven during the mid-20th century, this large Chinese harvest basket reflects the ingenuity and resilience of rural agricultural life. Crafted from split bamboo with a tightly woven body and reinforced rim, it was designed to withstand the demands of transporting rice and grain during harvest season. Its sturdy triple-strap handle distributed heavy loads with ease, while the carved ownership mark identified the farmer or village brigade responsible for the basket during communal harvests. Years of honest use have produced a warm amber patina that enhances its character and authenticity. Today, this remarkable vessel preserves the enduring traditions of Chinese basketry, celebrating the craftsmanship that supported generations of farming communities.
